Wer sich einen Chopper vorstellt, der denkt an ein Bike, an dem nur dran ist, was unbedingt zum Fahren benötigt wird: Fahrwerk, Räder, Motor, Schutzblech, Tank und Lenker, fertig. Wer sich mit dem Thema Chopper dann intensiver auseinandersetzt, stellt schnell fest, dass es ein weites Feld ist. Aus dem ursprünglichen Gedanken des „choppens“, also des wegbauens oder weglassens von Teilen entstand eine neue Motorradgattung, die bald schon mit typischen Merkmalen verbunden wurde: Lange Gabel, schmales Vorderrad, augesetzter Tank, Dragpipes etc…

All diese Gedanken machte sich auch Sebastian Heid, Werkstattmeister im House of Flames Munich, als er sich an die Planung der „Tribute“ machte. Die grösste Schwierigkeit lag wohl darin, alle Vorstellungen unter den wachsamen Augen des TÜV-Prüfers umsetzen zu können, ohne Abstriche bezüglich der Optik machen zu müssen.

Hier erwies sich zum Einen der gute Kontakt zur Edelschmiede HPU als Vorteil, wo Fahrwerkskomponenten wie Rahmen, Schwinge, Räder, Bremssystem etc. geordert wurden, zum Anderen die Tatsache, dass Sebastian auch nach Feierabend Zugriff auf die bestens ausgestattete Werkstatt des House of Flames in München hat, wo die Tribute innerhalb von 15 Monaten komplett in Eigenleistung aufgebaut wurde.

Tank, Heckfender, Modifikationen an Rahmen und Schwinge wurden ebenso von Hand angefertigt wie die Krümmeranlage samt Hitzebleche, der Öltank, Kennzeichenhalter, etc…

Was Motor und Getriebe anging kam für den Erbauer nur eines in Frage: original Harley Davidson Teile. Allerdings nicht ohne Modifikationen.So wurde dem Motor dank Screamin´ Eagle-Parts eine Leistungskur in Form von 95ci Zylindern, High Compression Kolben und 203er Nockenwellen spendiert. Abgerundet durch einen selbstgefertigten Luftfilter vor dem HD CV-Vergaser und eine AMC HD1 Auspuffanlage. Und um an die gute alte Zeit zu Errinnern sind noch Knuckle-Style Rockerboxen und Camcover montiert worden, welche, wie zahlreiche andere Teile am Bike vom Hamburger Pulverbeschichterbetrieb Erich David vorher in „dark iron sparkling effect“ veredelt wurden.

Der Motor überträgt seine Kraft über einen 3“ Belt von BDL an das originale HD-5-Ganggetriebe, dessen 40mm Versatzkit selbstredend auch von HPU stammt.

Und wer genauer auf den Primärantrieb schaut, wird feststellen, dass Elektrik eben doch schön sei kann. So befindet sich in einer speziell gefrästen Platte zwischen Motor und Primär die gesamte Bordelektrik: Altmann-Zündung, Sicherungen, Zündschloss und nicht sichtbar montiert auch die Zündspule. Überhaupt wurde ein Großteil der Zeit bei der Endmontage darauf verwendet, die Elektrik nahezu unsichtbar zu verlegen.

Doch das ist nur ein Teil des Reizes, den dieses Fahrzeug ausmacht. Beim Betrachten fallen immer neue Details auf, die in stundenlanger Arbeit entstanden sind, wie der Reglerhalter, Bremsanker vorne, das nachträglich gefräste HD-Bremspedal, der obere Motorhalter, die im Fender eingelassenen LED-Rücklichter, etc…

Was tut man nun als Erbauer eines solchen Bikes, wenn es um die mitunter wichtigsten Entscheidungen nach den Aufbauarbeiten geht, Lack und Leder? Ganz klar, man verplichtet die Besten. So konnte Sebastian für den Sitz Armin Dobstetter von Custom Leather und für den Lack Marcus Pfeil gewinnen, jeder für sich ein absoluter Profi.

Marcus hat freie Hand gehabt und Sebastian mit einem Pagan Gold Lack mit Scallops und Graphics in twisetd silver leaf überrascht, wobei ein ordentlicher metalflake Effekt und Pinstripings natürlich nicht fehlen durften.
Abgerundet vom Straussenleder-Sitz ein perfektes Finish für ein aussergewöhnliches Bike, welches – wie der Name schon sagt – ein Tribut sein soll an all die Chopper und Ihre Erbauer, die als Inspiration gedient haben.
